Mother’s Chicken Fried Steak
From Laura Wells – Mother's Chicken Fried Steak, simple but mighty tasty!
Equipment
- 1 Skillet Preferably an old iron one.
Ingredients
- 1/2 tsp Salt to taste
- 1/2 tsp Black Pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup Flour all purpose
- 3 tbsp Cannola Oil
- 1/2 tsp Garlic Salt to taste
- 1 pound Round Steak tenderized
Instructions
Prepare the Steak
- Tenderized round steak – this means pounding it with a tenderizer
- Salt and dredge in the flour or put flour in paper sack and give the meat a shake
- Add cannola oil to skillet, high heat, & brown the steaks
- When you turn each piece over, sprinkle with garlic powder (not salt)
Prepare the Gravy
- When steak is done to your liking, add a tablespoon or two of flour the existing grease and heat.
- Add milk for the gravy and stir continuously till almost boiling
Notes
This goes well with boiled or mashed potatoes and a side of vegetables. Not something to be eaten on a regular basis, but excellent comfort food.
